Information and Support for Families
Ongoing support, connection and commitment to bereaved families and to the memory of the fallen
“I will be responsible for him; you may hold me accountable. If I do not bring him back to you and present him before you, I will bear the blame before you for all time.”
(Genesis 43:9)
The history of Israel’s Armored Corps was written by its commanders and soldiers, and within it, a place of honor is reserved for those who fell in Israel’s wars, during ongoing security operations and in the course of their service. The memory of the fallen is an inseparable part of the Corps’ heritage, its moral duty and its enduring connection with bereaved families.
The Armored Corps Casualty Affairs Department works to maintain contact with bereaved families and support them during the first years following the loss of their loved ones. The Department includes the Head of Casualty Affairs and casualty affairs officers, who support families and assist them in their dealings with the Corps and the relevant authorities.
Throughout the year, events and activities are held to strengthen the connection with bereaved families and honor the memory of the fallen. These include the Armored Corps memorial ceremony, brigade memorial ceremonies, retreats for widows and bereaved parents, events for bereaved siblings and orphans, and assistance in coordinating annual memorial services.
The Department also assists orphans and bereaved siblings as they prepare to enlist in the IDF and throughout their military service. It also maintains contact with soldiers who were wounded or became ill during their regular or reserve service. Appreciation events and dedicated activities are held for disabled veterans of the Armored Corps.
Families seeking assistance in coordinating an annual memorial service are invited to contact the Department. Assistance includes, among other things, arranging for a military cantor and representatives from the relevant unit. Transportation to the cemetery must be arranged through the Ministry of Defense.
