Police building
Historical
A journey through the heritage of armor,
The stories of heritage and the tanks that changed history
The police building is one of the most prominent landmarks of Yad LaShirion and the entire Latrun area. The building was established in 1943 as a police station and detention center during the British Mandate period, and was designed as a fortress with two towers, observation posts, and loopholes.
The building's strategic location allowed for control of the area and the road to Jerusalem, and therefore it later became a key point in the fierce battles that took place in the area. The building's shell still bears signs of damage from the War of Independence and the Six-Day War.
During the development of the site, the authentic character of the structure was preserved, and the gunshot marks and shell damage were not repaired.
Thus, the building remains a living testament to the layers of Latrun's history: from the British period, through the Israeli wars, to its becoming a central part of the Yad LeShiryon complex.
