The Wall of Names

A wall of remembrance, connecting the names of the fallen with the story of the Armored Corps

The Wall of Names is the central memorial component of the Armored Corps. The names of the fallen of the Armored Corps, from the War of Independence to the present day, who fell in Israel's wars or during their service, are engraved on the Wall.

The Western Wall is built of silver metal plates, inspired by the words of Nathan Alterman in his poem "The Silver Tray": "We are the silver tray, on which the Jewish state was given to you." The names are arranged according to the systems of Israel, and within each system in alphabetical order. They appear without an indication of rank, as an expression that all the fallen are equal in memory and pain.

Alongside the fallen of the Armored Corps, warriors and soldiers from other trenches who fell while serving in armored units are also commemorated on the Western Wall. When a fallen soldier had a nickname, it was added to his name, out of a desire to preserve the personal character behind each name.

The plaza in front of the Western Wall is used throughout the year for memorial ceremonies, individual ceremonies, and commemorative events. Visitors, family members, soldiers, students, and groups from Israel and around the world come to honor the fallen and lay wreaths at the foot of the Western Wall.
